Vestra at UnCommons Introduces Matter Residences

Vestra at UnCommons is a stylish urban residential community designed by internationally renowned architecture firm, EDI International and a luxury design agency, Jules Wilson Design Studio. Located in the heart of Southwest Las Vegas, Vestra at UnCommons has quickly become a new lifestyle hub with over 280 residences available for purchase.

Developed by the world’s largest tech companies, including Apple, Amazon, Google+, Comcast, Samsung SmartThings and others, Matter is a next-generation smart home protocol that makes your devices work together regardless of platform. It uses local networks (Wi-Fi, Ethernet and Thread) to communicate between devices, rather than the cloud. This means less reliance on the internet and increased security, as communication between devices is encrypted with banking-standard AES.

Matter devices will also be compatible with the smart assistants you already use, like Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant. They’ll work across platforms, so your family can use their own preferred assistant to control the same smart lighting, locks or appliances.

You’ll need a Matter controller to set up and manage your Matter network. This will likely be a new device, but it’s possible that some current hubs and bridges may get updated to support Matter through an over-the-air firmware update. For example, Philips Hue and Aqara both have plans to upgrade their existing hubs to add Matter-over-Thread compatibility.

The goal of the initiative is to reduce the number of different smart home protocols on the market and make it easier for devices to work with each other. This will benefit both consumers, who won’t have to spend hours checking “Works with” badges and device lists and manufacturers, who will have fewer different standards to support. matter residences
